It seems that Platinum Dunes are paying attention to the criticism that fans have been giving regarding their non-stop love for remaking slasher classics. “There is a lot of negativity no matter what we’re doing. On some level the criticism can be helpful. Haters are haters and sometimes it’s very difficult to get to the bottom of what they are hating,” states co-producer Brad Fuller who, along with business partners Andrew Form and Michael Bay, have been responsible for giving Friday the 13th, The Hitcher and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre a modern day makeover.
With regards to their decision of cutting out the footage of Mrs. Voorhees from the opening of their Friday the 13th flick, he continued, “We did not have Mama Voorhees in the movie when we tested it… That’s because we felt it wasn’t shot in the way it needed to be shot and we didn’t know how to get it into the movie. Then when we tested the movie and the outcry online that she wasn’t in the movie was so loud that it forced us to re-look at what we were doing and it forced us to put that scene in the beginning. And I think the movie is better for it.”
Whatever your thoughts on Platinum Dunes and their desire to remake everything, it is a good sign that they watch over the messageboards and listen to what the fans have to say. Their next effort, A Nightmare on Elm Strees, is scheduled for release next April.
