Here you go guys. Despite the HARDKORE EXTREMENESS Zombie gets slagged for bringing to the HALLOWEEN franchise, I hope you will appreciate the very Carpenter-like shots of Myers in shadow.

Cry Wolf’s Julian Morris Talks Sorority Row

julianmorris

Ah, CRY WOLF – very underrated, underappeciated whodunnit for all the same reasons APRIL FOOLS DAY was – heck, felt like a companion flick. But I digress. Actor from that film, Julian Morris stars in SORORITY ROW (2009), and speaks about the redux:

Were you familiar with the original House on Sorority Row, and, if so, how faithful is this remake?

I had heard about the original, but it wasn’t a movie I had seen. When I read the script for the new one, I watched the older version and have in fact met the original writer and director, Mark Rosman. He actually came to set a number of days when we were filming the new one. He’s a huge supporter of the new one, which is a totally different animal. Characters are being changed and the killer is different. The new version is definitely contemporized.

Who do you play in the film and how does he get sucked into all the chaos going on?

I play Andy, the boyfriend of the lead girl, Cassidy, and at first, I see her in this awful sorority house with these awful sorority sisters. He doesn’t know about their prank gone wrong, so I’m not sure why she’s trying to distance herself from the sorority. Being the good boyfriend, I give her my support. I’m also the valedictorian. I give a speech and initiate the graduation ceremony. Of course, when the serial killer starts striking, I’m the one who has to save my girlfriend.

The guilty pleasures of many horror movies are the gruesome deaths. Which one made you squirm the most?

I don’t know if it’s because the writers of the script are sick or the director is sicker but this one is really good. A lot of the deaths involve a slight edge or dark twist of humor. It makes them all the more perverse and worse. My favorite one involves Margo Harshman’s character Chugs who is seeing her psychiatrist and having an affair with him. Of course, it’s not the therapist who is there but the killer. I don’t want to give it away but it’s fantastic. My death is pretty good as well.

Is the whodunit aspect as important as the gore?

For this type of film and genre, it often is. The great thing about Sorority Row is it’s a horror, but not in the same vein as Hostel or Saw, where it’s gratuitous violence. It harkens back to the genre pieces of the ‘90s, like I Know What You Did Last Summer or Scream, where you have that humor running through it. It’s slightly self defacing and self referential. Particularly for these films, the whodunit aspect is vital. That’s very true for Sorority Row where you are wondering who did it and how the killer knew about the prank. Is it one of them? An outsider? Are they from the sorority house? A lot of these sorority sisters are awful people so when they are killed, you really enjoy it. In a way, you are rooting for whoever is behind this mask and graduation gown. It’s also thrilling when you have the reveal to see who it is.

In Cry Wolf, the deaths were mainly smoke and mirrors, so how much corn syrup did you have to deal with for Sorority Row?

A lot. It’s funny but Cry Wolf was pretty tame in comparison, but at the time I didn’t think it was. There is a lot of corn syrup in this one and it does have an R rating.

Halloween: The Final Issue Of Laurie Strode

3bPraise be Thorn! As we recently suggested, it’s now confirmed that we’ll be able to get the third and final issue of HALLOWEEN: THE FIRST DEATH OF LAURIE STRODE soon enough! For those not in the know, this mini-series covers the in-continuity but up till now unknown circumstances in which Laurie faked her death and became Keri Tate as discussed in HALLOWEEN H20. Bet you thought the fakery involved standard witness protection procedural, right? Wrong.

It takes place after HALLOWEEN 2 and involves Michael Myers hanging around Haddonfield post-Halloween, causing trouble and death for a town in denial. Perfectly seguewaying the second and seventh films, this mini-series is certainly a treat for fans. And it’s no trick, the final issue is coming!

Here’s the skinny and some gorgeous variant cover art by Shawn McManus.

After something of a lengthy delay the final issue of ‘Halloween: The First Death of Laurie Strode’ is back on, and will be  hitting the shelves shortly.  We’ll definitely be giving you the exact date as it comes in, but know that as of now the delay is over, and the book is being worked on.  Issue 3 is coming to stores just as surely as Michael is coming for Laurie.

As with issues 1 & 2 the creative team on this book will be Stefan Hutchinson on writing, and Jeff Zornow on interior art.  Alternate covers will also be available and feature  work by Jon Rea, Shawn McManus (as noted in the picture above), Omaha Perez, and of course  Jeff Zornow.

Hellraiser Puzzle Box Set On DVD & Blu-Ray

As a slasher fan I was always attracted to HELLRAISER for the same reason I fell in love with NEON MANIACS – these films contained a team of franchise-ready creatures/killers.

Releasing today, Anchor Bay continue their standard of high-concept boxsets (like PHANTASM SPHERE, SLEEPAWAY CAMP SURVIVAL KIT), with the HELLRAISER PUZZLE BOX. You can grab it on DVD or Blu-Ray and it contains the first two films along with a host of special features from previous releases.

New H2: HALLOWEEN 2 image

h2

Director Rob Zombie has furnished the official Halloween site with yet another image of Tyler Mane as Michael Myers in his forthcoming H2. Whilst it is hardly packed with action, this is the best shot so far of the series antagonist. Initially reluctant to return for a follow up, Zombie stated; “When I finished Halloween I was so fucking burnt out that the thought of doing another seemed totally insane to me at the time. I was done. But after a year and a half break I started to think that maybe another one wasn’t such a bad idea. I love the characters and felt that I had only just scratched the surface of what could be done with them. The basic story was out of the way and now the series could go anywhere. Seeing the aftermath of Michael’s rampage through the eyes of Laurie and Loomis was very exciting to me. So I came back and now we have a movie. Never say never.”

Code Red To Release Weekend Murders?

weekendmurders

Here’s the latest from Code Red DVD:

Actor-Director Peter Baldwin was kind enough to grant us an on camera interview for one of our upcoming titles that Peter starred in. Peter also granted us a lively audio commentary/interview with HOSTEL producer Scott Spiegel and our extras producer Lee Christian. The film is an Italian giallo also starring some lovely Euro actresses, a British comedian, and a tough guy Italian star playing against type as a bumbling constable. We have a brand new HiDef master in its original scope aspect ratio (2.35:1). We are trying our hands at some Italian films and this one is ready to go and will be hitting the streets in late July (tentative July 21th). Stay tune for more info.

The secretive company haven’t actually stated what the title is, which makes it a little difficult to talk about, but based on the criteria, many seem to think it’s THE WEEKEND MURDERS (1970) AKA – CONCERTO PER PISTOLA SOLISTA.
