This genre needs some new scream queens. Let’s face it, it’s been a long time since we were given Jamie Lee Curtis and Linnea Quigley and whilst the likes of Neve Campbell may have come close they never quite embraced the status as much as their eighties counterparts.
So here’s a list of potential newcomers who may offer slasher fans a little bit of eye candy in between the kills…
BRIANA EVIGAN
Twenty-two year old Los Angeles native Briana Evigan recently co-starred in the direct-to-DVD sequel S. Darko and is soon set to appear in Summit Entertainment‘s glamorous remake of The House on Sorority Row alongside fellow beauties Leah Pipes, Margo Harshman and Jamie Chung. In the role of heroine Cassidy, Evigan is forced to fight back against a vengeful killer after helping to cover up the accidental death of one of her friends.
JANET MONTGOMERY
As well as the upcoming flick The Hills Run Red, twenty three year old British born actress Janet Montgomery is takes the lead in Declan O’Brien’s promising sequel Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead, in which Montgomer’s character, Fonda, teams up with a group of dangerous killers to fight against a clan of inbred mutants.
ANGELA TRIMBUR
Holding her own against Scout Taylor-Compton, Sheri Moon Zombie and Danielle Harris, twenty seven year old Angela Trimbur co-stars as Harley David in Rob Zombie’s latest venture, H2. Although her previous genre appearances include Brotherhood of Blood, the latest Halloween instalment should bring her to the attention of horror fans.
ROONEY MARA
Having co-starred alongside her older sister, Kate Mara, in the 2005 slasher sequel Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, newcomer Rooney Mara is set to step into Heather Langenkamp’s shoes as Nancy Thomson, the resourceful heroine and nemesis of child murderer Freddy Krueger in Platinum Dunes‘ upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, scheduled for a 2010 release.
MONICA DELAIN
Rising Canadian star Moneca Delain had already enjoyed small roles in the likes of Smallville and Battlestar Galactica when she took part in the ill-fated vampire flick Lost Boys: The Tribe. Now the twenty seven year old beauty will co-star in the highly anticipated anthology Trick ‘r Treat, which has been delayed since last year, despite promising reviews from various sites.
SHANTEL VANSANTEN
Twenty four year old Shantel VanSanten is set to go 3D this August when she is stalked by death itself in the latest entry in the successful Final Destination franchise. Starring alongside Krista Allen, VanSanten is no doubt set for a gruesome demise but just how much of a fight will she put up against the forces of evil?
AMBER HEARD
Texan beauty Amber Heard’s prior work includes Friday Night Lights, Alpha Dog and Pineapple Express, but soon she will be facing off against a psychotic Dylan Walsh in Nelson McCormick’s update of the eighties classic The Stepfather, in which she will play the girlfriend of Penn Badgley, who has become suspicious of his charming new father.
